Unyielding Strength: Harnessing the Power of Persistence
Consistently consistent!
“When you look at people who are successful, you will find that they aren’t the people who are motivated, but have consistency in their motivation.”
Arsene Wenger
This week I got to sit down with two remarkable young gentleman that are successful Youtubers. Chris Chase and Jarron Ramos. I learned about them from my buddy Rob Pinkston who is an avid sneaker collector. They guys have found a way to make money talking about basketball shoes and reviewing the performance aspect of the shoes online. Pretty cool lane they’ve created for themselves.
Chris and Jarron are both avid basketball fans and love to play the game themselves. I thought it was very cool how they have been able to build a career and lifestyle around their passion…I mean that is the dream right?!
One big thing I took away from this sit down was the importance of consistency, especially when building a following online. For a long time people aren’t going to care about what you create and you have to be able to learn to be okay with that.
Another takeaway that I believe a lot of people could learn from is the best way to handle hate online. Whether you like it or not, dealing with idiots on the internet is something you will probably have to deal with in the modern world.
We shared a lot of laughs and good stories on this podcast and there are some valuable life lessons sprinkled in there along the way. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

The Undeniable Force of Persistence
In a world that often celebrates immediate success and quick wins, the true value of persistence can sometimes be overshadowed. Yet, it’s this very quality – the unwavering commitment to a goal, the refusal to give up despite obstacles and setbacks – that often separates momentary achievements from lasting success. Persistence is more than mere stubbornness; it’s a deliberate and focused effort to overcome challenges, learn from failures, and keep moving forward. This blog aims to explore the power of persistence, examining its role in personal and professional success and offering insights on how to harness this formidable force.
Defining Persistence: More Than Just Stubbornness
Persistence is a complex trait, intertwining determination, patience, resilience, and self-discipline. It’s about maintaining course in the face of adversity, adapting strategies as needed, and staying committed to the end goal. Understanding the nuanced nature of persistence is the first step in cultivating it within oneself.
The Role of Persistence in Personal and Professional Success
Countless stories of success, from groundbreaking scientific discoveries to awe-inspiring artistic achievements, have one common thread – persistence. This relentless pursuit of a goal is what drives innovation, fosters learning, and turns dreams into realities. In both personal growth and professional development, persistence is the fuel that keeps the journey going, even when the destination seems distant.
Balancing Persistence with Flexibility: Knowing When to Adapt
While persistence is undoubtedly a virtue, it’s equally important to balance it with flexibility. Being persistent does not mean being inflexible. It’s about having the wisdom to adapt, pivot, and find new pathways toward your goal when faced with new information or unexpected roadblocks.
As we delve deeper into the power of persistence, we’ll uncover the psychological foundations of this trait, explore strategies for cultivating it, and draw inspiration from those who have demonstrated persistence in the face of daunting challenges.
The Psychological Underpinnings of Persistence
Understanding the psychological factors that drive persistence can offer valuable insights into how this trait is developed and maintained. From mindset to resilience, various elements come together to forge the unyielding spirit of persistence. Let’s explore the key psychological underpinnings that contribute to an individual’s ability to persist in the face of challenges.
The Growth Mindset: The Foundation of Persistence
At the heart of persistence lies the growth mindset, a concept popularized by psychologist Carol Dweck. This mindset revolves around the belief that abilities and intelligence can be developed through dedication and hard work. Individuals with a growth mindset view challenges as opportunities to learn and grow, rather than as insurmountable obstacles. This perspective is crucial in fostering persistence, as it encourages individuals to embrace challenges, learn from criticism, and persevere in the face of setbacks.
Resilience in the Face of Challenges
Resilience, or the ability to bounce back from adversity, is a key component of persistence. It involves handling stress, coping with difficulties, and recovering from failures without losing motivation. Resilient individuals don’t shy away from challenges; instead, they face them head-on, drawing lessons from their experiences and using them as fuel to move forward.
The Influence of Motivation and Self-Discipline
Persistence is also deeply intertwined with motivation and self-discipline. Intrinsic motivation, or the drive to pursue an activity for its inherent satisfaction, can sustain persistence even when external rewards are absent. Meanwhile, self-discipline enables individuals to stay focused on their goals, resist distractions, and maintain a consistent effort over time. Together, motivation and self-discipline form a powerful duo that propels individuals towards their long-term goals.
Cultivating Persistence: Strategies for Long-Term Success
Cultivating persistence is a deliberate practice that involves setting the right goals, creating a supportive environment, and learning from setbacks. By adopting specific strategies, individuals can strengthen their persistence and increase their chances of achieving long-term success. Here are some key strategies to cultivate persistence.
Goal Setting and the Power of Visualization
Setting clear, achievable goals is the first step in cultivating persistence. Goals provide direction and a sense of purpose, making it easier to stay focused and motivated. Alongside goal setting, visualization can be a powerful tool. Visualizing the process and the outcome can help reinforce commitment to the goals and prepare individuals for the challenges they might face along the way.
Developing a Supportive Environment
The environment in which individuals operate can significantly influence their persistence. Surrounding oneself with supportive people who encourage and believe in their goals can make a substantial difference. This support system can provide encouragement, advice, and a different perspective when challenges arise. Additionally, creating a physical environment that minimizes distractions and fosters focus can also help maintain the drive needed to persist.
Learning from Failure: The Stepping Stones of Success
Viewing failures and setbacks as opportunities for learning and growth is crucial in cultivating persistence. Instead of getting discouraged by setbacks, individuals should analyze what went wrong, adjust their strategies, and try again. This approach not only builds resilience but also provides valuable insights that can improve future efforts.
The Impact of Persistence in Various Life Spheres
